NaPoWriMo- Day 10: Patience

They'd always told him that patience was a virtue
They'd made sure he learned that lesson thoroughly.
'Good things come to those who wait,' they'd chant
And he'd accepted these lessons, in all but practice.

It is one thing to speak of being able to wait,
It is one thing to appreciate the theory of patience,
It is another to sit by for years waiting for something,
Or worse yet, and even more common, someone.

He believes that he is flawed for ever feeling desire,
Feels it would be taking away from another's will to let on.
So even though he may crave another's love and affection,
He sits quietly by and waits for someone to want him.

He has seen so many beautiful boys whom he could love,
And a pang of guilt hits him in the stomach for the thought.
That sort of love, he'd been told, was no right love at all.
That sort of love, he'd been told, deserves to be punished.

But though he can appreciate the pretty girls in his life,
They'd never made him want to share himself.
They'd always fail to inspire the right kind of passion.
And when he closed his eyes, he never saw their faces.

He is waiting to be loved by people who could not love him,
He is waiting for his sort of love to be forgiven by his God,
And every night, he kneels and cries, and pleads to be forgiven.
The virtue has given him nothing, and all he really wants is love.
