NaPoWriMo: Day 4- The Giant, Unforgiving, Man-eating Catfish: An Appreciation

Note on the subject matter, this is based on an Animal Planet show called River Monsters, and the title of that particular episode was "Killer Catfish." It's about a guy named Jeremy Wade and his hunt for dangerous sea creatures.

It’s hard to describe a Giant, Unforgiving Man eating Catfish
Because the mere title pretty much tells the entire tale.
So, apparently, in the Kali River in India, live many fish.
There are small fish in the murky waters, and larger fish too.
But surprisingly, there are also giant, man-eating catfish.

The proper name for said catfish is the goonch,
But as you may have noticed, this tells us nothing.
I feel as though the title which I have endowed surpasses
Because the giant, man eating catfish is under-appreciated.
No one’s ever shivered at the thought of a catfish.

And that is why I feel the need to publicly declare,
That I fear the giant, man-eating catfish as a monster.
That the wide gaping mouth of that creature,
With its sharp, shark-like teeth, and slick skin
This dark, underwater creature scares me.

How can I not fear a buffalo-eating creature?
How can I not fear a giant man-eating catfish?
It has tiny eyes, but somehow sees just fine.
It sees well enough to survive, and thrive.
And for long enough to grow into a giant.

This is why, when I saw the British underwater expert
Diving into the water, in order to capture the fish,
I began to panic and bite my nails, muttering to the TV,
“No, Mr. British Underwater expert! You will die!”
“You cannot fight the giant, unforgiving catfish monster!”

I normally take men with British accents seriously,
But I had to question the sanity of this particular expert.
Still, he persevered, and was relatively unscathed.
And I was duly impressed with the British man,
And could return to trusting the intellectual accent.

Still, when push came to shove, and fish pull to man,
The British underwater expert fell short on his last cast,
And failed to capture the true beast of the Kali river,
So here’s to you, relatively elusive, Giant Catfish,
Your man killing, unforgiving strength has impressed us all.
