Today, in Global Ed we were each given a Malian name (Mali is one of the countries we build schools in), and we went around introducing ourselves in the main Malian language, Bambara. My Malian name is Sanata.
I ni ce. Nedtongo Sanata.
Global Ed coordinators asked us a series of questions.
Do you need glasses to read?
Well, if you lived in a place like Mali, you would probably be illiterate because its hard to find an ophthalmologist in such a rural place, and you probably wouldn't be able to afford glasses.
Have you any female relatives (direct descendants) who didn't receive any education beyond elementary school?
This female most likely would not know about STD's and would not be able to protect herself from them. This could mean that you, her child (or grandchild) would contract an STD.
Did you drink water at any point today?
If you drank water, you probably subjected yourselves to many bacteria and diseases, and you could die or become seriously ill.
Can you imagine living like this?
With every Global Ed project we do, I want to help people more and more. The more I learn about there lives, the more I see ways I can help them.
However, many other people don't see ways to help.
Well, a big part of the process is spreading awareness. If more people were aware of these conditions, more people would probably help out.
There are people and organizations all over that can assist people who want to help. It doesn't require giving up anything of your own to help those in need.
If you, like me, want to help you can vote for Shawn and help him get to Davos.
Want to help AND prepare for SATs at the same time?! Go donate free rice. Its COMPLETELY FREE!
That is all,
