BEDA 14: ON_TIME

“Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't
own it, but you can use it. You can't keep
it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it
you can never get it back.”

-Harvey MacKay

-The average person gets 1 interruption every 8 minutes, or approximately 7 an hour, or 50-60 per day. The average interruption takes 5 minutes, totaling about 4 hours or 50% of the average workday. 80% of those interruptions are typically rated as "little value" or "no value" creating approximately 3 hours of wasted time per day.

-The average working person spends less than 30 seconds a day in meaningful communication with their children.

-The average American watches 28 hours of television per week.

I got these facts and that quote when I decided to spend a couple of minutes to see what I could learn about time. Time is considered out enemy when we are in a hurry, our friend when we need to heal, and rarely ever enough when we need to rest. Nevertheless it is our constant companion, its voice constantly whispering in our ears warning us, grating by slowly or a mere whisper as it flies by.
It seems everything we do these days is about time. We think about the past, and the future, and make plans to make the present significant, everything we do is about time- how to use it. It's like Alaska says in ***Looking For Alaska*** our ambition has tried to overcompensate for our advances in science, it is trying to make us use our time even though it may not be the most happy-making way to live. Despite the fact that the struggle with time is something that we all share, it has made us split into factions. We don't realize that it's something we have in common, we don't TALK about things because we're so busy trying to figure what to do for "me time."

It's the perfect "US" conflict, yet we focus on ourselves...
