So, as a general rule, us interwebs people are paranoid about viruses... especially when you go on iffy sites to get what you want. (stop smiling! =X). So, in order to protect ourselves many of us install a legion of programs. I for one have a regiment for my computer like some people have for their skin and hair. First I force shut it off, then I open it in "Safe Mode," then I run a very basic disc cleaning scan, then I run an intimate Advanced Disc Cleaner scan, then I run a Disc Clean-up, then I run Ad Aware... then I scan for viruses...
If this seems a little excessive... it isn't. I truly am that concerned for my computer... not that it would really be that difficult to fix it if it was infected, but really, WHO WANTS TO? I don't necessarily need the files I might lose, but really, I DON'T WANT TO. It's also reassuring when the computer runs as quickly as it should and does not malfunction, it's a bit of a boost to my ego to tell people I haven't been "infected" with a virus for over a year! Of course when I tell them of the process that lets me do this, they raise one eyebrow, and Back.Away.Slowly... unable to process why I do that, if it is necessary, and what on earth I could be hiding...
So this leads me to wonder if I am the only person who goes through all of these pains in order to keep my baby working... Could I be the only person who stays up late nights searching for software to scan more effectively for viruses? The only one who uses trials with no intention of buying the product? The only one in love with a program that she can't afford? 0.0
