Obama and the election

The second I heard that Barack Obama was officially going to be the next president of the United States of America, my country of residence, I felt proud. Honestly, although I feel like I understand why this is such an amazing, and historic feat, I feel like many other people don't understand why it's so amazing. Many people feel as though it is only a "big deal" to African Americans. These people do not understand the monumental significance of the situation. America is built upon equality, it's about feeling that others deserve as much in life as you do, no matter your creed or your color. It's about feeling proud of the general progression of humanity. This is why I believe that although it is especially wonderful for people of color, it is wonderful for everyone! Yes, he is black, but better than that, he is an intelligent, amazing man.
Effectively, he is smart, and in touch with the people. He is the American Dream, the chance of a young man without the richest of opportunities but who build himself from the ground up. He embodies the spirit of hope in America. He represents a new America, that understands that we need to take risks in order to move forward. In the position I woke up to find America in, we need to move forward. This decision is more than important to one person, or one type of people, it is a national decision that represents the dawn of a New America, that embodies the spirit of equal opportunity, and prosperity, of the America of old.
